Leeds United are reportedly planning to make a swoop to sign West Ham United star Ben Johnson this summer, as per Football Insider.
After coming through the Hammers’ youth system, the 24-year-old made his senior debut for his boyhood club back in 2019. However, he never managed to secure his place in West Ham’s starting eleven.
So, Football Insider states that Johnson is willing to move away from London Stadium this summer to play regular first-team football elsewhere. The report further claims that Leeds have registered their interest in signing the Englishman and they could make a concrete approach ahead of next season.
Johnson’s current contract with West Ham is set to expire at the end of next month so Leeds can manage to acquire his service as a free agent. However, Rangers are also interested in signing him and therefore, the Peacocks are set to face tough competition from their rivals in getting any potential deal done for him.

Johnson to Leeds
After enduring relegation in the 2022/23 season, Leeds displayed promising performances in the Championship last term, finishing third in the league and reaching all the way to the playoff final. However, they eventually lost to Southampton in the final so they will have to remain in the Championship for next season as well.
It has been suggested that having failed to gain the promotion, Leeds would need to sell some of their stars to balance the books. So, they are seemingly planning to reinforce their squad by signing low-cost stars.
Johnson is a strong and dynamic defender. He is quick, efficient in defensive contributions, good in the air and has the ability to deliver excellent crosses from the wide areas.
With Leeds lacking options in their right-back position, signing a new name to strengthen this position could be the right decision and the West Ham star would be a shrewd signing should they purchase him.
Therefore, it is going to be interesting to see whether Daniel Farke’s side eventually make a swoop to sign Johnson in the upcoming transfer window to strengthen their right-back position.
What do you think will he be a good addition for us or not?
