Leeds United Chief Executive Angus Kinnear has shared an encouraging update on the squad’s morale as the team prepares for a crucial part of the Championship season.
With no more international breaks until March, the promotion race is set to heat up, and Leeds are very much in the mix.
Currently sitting third in the league, just two points behind Sunderland and Sheffield United, Leeds have their eyes firmly on a return to the Premier League.
However, their road form remains a concern, with only two wins in seven away matches.
Despite this, the squad appears confident and united, according to Kinnear.
Confidence Growing in the Leeds Camp
Angus Kinnear recently spoke during a Supporter Advisory Board meeting and highlighted the togetherness in the team.
He pointed to Leeds’ recent match against Plymouth as a great example of how the team is working hard to dominate games, while also rotating the squad and introducing young players.
“The confidence in the squad is strong right now,” Kinnear shared. “We’ve got a team that can dominate games, and the youth players stepping in show the depth we’ve got.”
Leeds’ squad morale will be key as the Championship table tightens up, especially during the busy festive season.
With Sunderland and Sheffield United within reach, the race for automatic promotion is still wide open.
Why Promotion Is Crucial for Leeds
Promotion this season is more than just about glory for Leeds United, it’s a financial necessity.
This is the final year the club will receive parachute payments following their relegation from the Premier League.
Failing to return to the top flight would mean a much smaller budget next season and could lead to player sales to balance the books.
Back in September, Kinnear revealed that Leeds are still close to the Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) limits.
Despite raising over £100 million in summer player sales, Leeds remain financially tight.
Kinnear explained: “Selling big players gave us breathing room, but staying in the Championship would put us close to PSR limits. The EFL has strict rules, and sanctions like transfer embargoes are a possibility for clubs who don’t meet these requirements.”
Leeds Fans Have Reason for Hope
Despite financial pressures and challenges on the road, Leeds fans have reasons to be optimistic.
The team is showing fight and unity, and with strong performances at Elland Road, the promotion dream is alive.
As the season progresses, Leeds must capitalize on their momentum and turn more away games into wins.
The path to the Premier League is never easy, but with a confident squad and the right mindset, Leeds United are in a strong position to make it back to the top.
