Leeds United secured a solid 2-0 win over Coventry City, moving five points clear at the top of the Championship. But despite the victory, manager Daniel Farke was not fully happy with the team’s performance.
Leeds started strong against Coventry, taking control of the match early. Joel Piroe opened the scoring with a calm and composed finish.
Not long after, Jayden Bogle doubled the lead with a brilliant solo goal, dribbling past defenders and the goalkeeper to slot it home.
From that point, Leeds looked in control and had several chances to extend their lead. But they were unable to convert those chances into more goals.
Missed opportunities and some controversial referee decisions, including a denied penalty for Brenden Aaronson and an offside call against Willy Gnonto, kept the score at 2-0.
Farke Frustrated With Ampadu’s Yellow Card
Even with the win, Daniel Farke pointed out things that Leeds need to improve.
One moment that annoyed him was captain Ethan Ampadu receiving a yellow card in the 39th minute. The booking came after a tussle with Jake Bidwell during a Leeds corner.
Farke spoke about this after the match (via LeedsLive): “I’m annoyed we got a yellow card. Annoyed that my left-back complained to the referee instead of getting back. There were a few situations in the game where we were not spot on. We shouldn’t get a yellow card in the opponent’s box when we have a corner. A few details I’m not happy with but to win at such a difficult away place I can’t be too moody. A little bit away from perfect performance.”
Leeds Continue Their Strong Form
Despite Farke’s frustration, Leeds are in great form. They have now gone 14 games unbeaten and have kept six clean sheets in a row. The win over Coventry keeps them in a strong position in the Championship, five points ahead of Burnley and Sheffield United.
Farke expects high standards from his team, and he wants them to be more clinical in front of goal. The ability to dominate games is important, but finishing chances will be key as Leeds push for promotion.
Leeds will now turn their focus to the FA Cup, where they host Millwall in the fourth round. After that, they return to league action against Watford, hoping to keep their winning run going and strengthen their position at the top.
