Transfers: Leeds United are reportedly keen on signing VfB Stuttgart star Silas Katompa Mvumpa this summer, as per the German outlet Build.
The Peacocks enjoyed a promising campaign under Daniel Farke last term and even went all the way to the final of the Championship playoff. However, following the defeat against Southampton in the final, they have now failed to gain the promotion.
It has been reported that after failing to secure Premier League status, Leeds have suffered a huge financial impact and they need to sell some stars to balance the books.
Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto have been mentioned as one of the players who could be sold to generate funds. So, it appears the Yorkshire club are looking to sign a new low-cost star to bolster their frontline.
According to the report by Bild, Leeds have registered their interest in signing Silas after being impressed by his performances in the Bundesliga last term.
Transfers: Silas to Leeds
The report further claims that after Champions League qualification, Stuttgart are looking to sign elite quality players to compete in that competition so they could cash-in on the 25-year-old and may accept a fee of around £8m.
However, the German outlet says that Villarreal, Fulham, Auxerre and Lens are also interested in signing him so it won’t be easy for Leeds to get this deal done.
The report also raises concern about whether Leeds can afford to spend the reported fee to sign the African amid their financial difficulties. So, it remains to be seen whether the Peacock will eventually manage to acquire his service this summer.
Silas displayed eye-catching performances for Stuttgart last term, scoring seven goals and registering three assists in nine starts in all competitions and also helped his team finish second in the Bundesliga ahead of Bayern Munich.
The 25-year-old, standing at 6ft 2in tall, is quick, strong and has showcased glimpses of his qualities in a top league like the Bundesliga. So, he would be an excellent acquisition for the Yorkshire club if they acquire his service.
However, it remains to be seen whether Leeds can manage to lure him to Elland Road by defeating their rivals in this race.
