Leeds United are busy in the transfer market and hope to buy a couple more players before the window closes at the end of this month.
The club has just signed Manor Solomon as their sixth signing, and hopes that with less than two days left for someone else to come along.
Leeds Chasing More Players
Leeds United have not stopped. The club would still like to fill a few holes, certain of which are particularly acute at full-back and midfield positions.
They have shown interest in Bournemouth’s Max Aarons and Ajax’s Owen Wijndal for the full-back role.
While in the midfield, Leeds are examining several options such as Ao Tanaka, Philip Billing and Gustavo Hamer.
There is also a new target, Freiburg’s Roland Sallai. The Hungarian playmaker could be the standout signing of the summer if Leeds manages to secure his services.
However, it seems the focus is now on getting a new midfielder quickly.
Leeds Turn Attention to Ao Tanaka
Recently, Leeds had a £13 million bid rejected by Sheffield United in exchange for Gustavo Hamer, so they turned their sights to Ao Tanaka instead.
Of Japanese origin, Tanaka plays for Fortuna Düsseldorf in Germany. Leeds attempted to sign him last summer but couldn’t get the deal done.
Now, they are knocking at his door once again and this time it seems like a bang on.
With regard to Tanaka’s contract situation, there seemed to be some disagreement in the reports.
The Daily Mail reported that Leeds were ready to trigger his £ 2.65 million release clause.
However, other sources such as BILD have revealed that he doesn’t have a release clause built into his contract at all.
In any case, Leeds could still sign him at a bargain price because his contract runs out in less than a year.
What Makes Tanaka a Target?
We know Tanaka can do just about anything with the ball.
Recently though, he has turned in a pretty decent goalscoring record for both his club and even somewhat unexpectedly for Japan.
This means Leeds have got a potential beauty on their hands.
Even Kieran McKenna, Ipswich Town’s manager, has had nothing but praise for Tanaka after watching him in action during a friendly match in the summer.
McKenna said: “Midfielder Ao Tanaka. Anyone who is serious about football will know a little about him. He has incredible technique. But there are other good players at Fortuna, too.”
Leeds Push for Final Signings
Leeds United have just a few days left to finish their summer business. With the clock ticking, the club is moving fast to strengthen its squad with some key signings.
Tanaka looks like a player they want, and it remains to be seen if they can finalize the deal before the transfer window closes.
Leeds fans will be eagerly waiting for more news, hoping for another exciting addition to their team before the deadline.
