Leeds United are stepping up their bid to complete new signings ahead of the start of the season at Portsmouth.
The money acquired by the sale of Crysencio Summerville is believed to later supplement their squad but Leeds are reportedly desperate for more options.
Recent Signings and Needs
Leeds have already bolstered their ranks with four new signings.
Two of these are expected to make a significant contribution, though third-choice goalkeeper Alex Cairns and Joe Rodon who had been at the club on loan, are not expected to significantly change the team’s dynamics.
Bringing fresh new blood into Elland Road as it stands now is more promising with Joe Rothwell and Jayden Bogle incoming.
Max Wober and Brenden Aaronson are back in the squad as well. One thing that is still clear from these additions, there are plenty of holes to plug at Leeds.
Despite having three full-back options on each side of the defense they require a new one. The loss of Archie Gray and Glen Kamara also means that a new midfielder is an important addition.
And finally, they have to identify a new Crysencio Summerville following his move to West Ham.
Pursuit of Jonathan Rowe
One of the main targets at Leeds is Norwich City’s England U21 star Jonathan Rowe.
The versatile player had an impressive season where he scored 12 goals in the Championship, being paired against Leeds four times, while also coming up against them twice more at Elland Road for the play-off semi-finals.
Leeds have been working towards an initial £7m offer for Rowe, likely to be knocked back.
Despite the anticipated difficulty, talks are ongoing for Rowe, who has previously expressed admiration for the Elland Road crowd.
Transfer Challenges
The Athletic have offered a new take on Leeds’ struggle to land Rowe. The club knows this will not be a straightforward one to get done.
Nevertheless, they are unwilling to give up on their pursuit of the Norwich academy graduate.
Insights from Graeme Bailey
Transfer expert Graeme Bailey opened up on the issue. And while it is a deal that, which Bailey writes would cost less than £10m for Leeds to confirm due to Rowe’s previous experience at the club.
Norwich are surprisingly willing to do business but it is unclear if they would accept an offer below £10 million and a compromise could be struck in the region of £10 million to £12 million.
Leeds United have their sights set on bolstering their squad for next season.
Although they may struggle for prime talent such as Jonathan Rowe, their desire to bolster the squad is undeniably there.
The next few days are key as Leeds look to wrap up their transfer business before the trip down south on Saturday and their league opener at Portsmouth.
