As reported by journalist Sebastiao Sousa Pinto, Leeds United has submitted a bid of approximately £3.3 million for the UD Leiria midfielder Dje D’avilla and is willing to include performance incentives.
Though several teams are interested in signing the 21-year-old Ivorian defensive midfielder, a transfer to England does come with its fair share of problems owing to work permit issues.
This rumored move has caught the Leeds supporters off guard, more so due to the existing talent in midfield coupled with other pressing requirements.
Leeds Submit Offer for Rising Talent
Reports confirm that Leeds’ bid matches the asking price set by Portuguese second-tier club UD Leiria. Sousa Pinto shared on social media:
“Leeds United have made an offer to sign Djé D’avilla, in the region of £3.3million – objectives included. A transfer to England is considered difficult due to the work permit. Several clubs have shown interest in signing the midfielder. £3.3m is the amount requested by the Union of Leiria.”
D’avilla successfully solidified his defence in midfield. Nonetheless, the club’s fans are asking if the signing of a midfielder in the form of D’avilla is a strategically sound decision.
Leeds’ Midfield Already Well-Stocked
Leeds manager Daniel Farke stated earlier that activities during the January transfer window would be minimal as the team’s midfield position is the strongest.
Ilia Gruev recovered from his knee injury and played in the FA Cup against Harrogate while Ethan Ampadu also appeared to have healed from injury quicker than anticipated.
Along with Joe Rothwell and Ao Tanaka, creating a good midfield core. With such options available, fans cannot help but wonder why the club seeks to look for D’Avilla as the top priority when it clearly needs a striker or a goalkeeper.
