Leeds United have been linked with Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Latte Lath during this January transfer window, but it seems the Whites won’t be making a move for the 26-year-old powerhouse.
Despite his standout performances in the Championship, which include 10 goals this season, Leeds boss Daniel Farke appears content with his current striking options.
Latte Lath’s Championship Success and MLS Interest
Latte Lath has been a standout player for Middlesbrough this season, tying with Leeds United’s Joel Piroe as one of the league’s top scorers. However, there’s a key difference between the two forwards.
While Piroe’s lack of pace has been noted by Farke, Latte Lath offers a dynamic and physical presence up front, making him an appealing option for teams needing a speedy striker.
Leeds United News previously reported the club’s interest in Latte Lath, but competition from MLS side Atlanta United may have ended their hopes. Atlanta is reportedly prepared to spend £16 million to secure the striker, a deal that would mark a record fee for the club.
If Latte Lath does make the move, he’ll join former Leeds player Mateusz Klich, who recently signed for Atlanta from D.C. United.
Why Leeds Are Unlikely to Sign Latte Lath
According to a report from TeamTalk, Farke is happy to stick with his current striking lineup for the remainder of the season.
Despite Joe Gelhardt being close to a loan move to Hull City and Patrick Bamford sidelined with injury, Farke trusts Joel Piroe and young talent Mateo Joseph to lead the attack.
This decision effectively rules out a Leeds bid for Latte Lath, leaving Atlanta United as the frontrunners for his signature.
Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick admitted he’s unsure if Latte Lath will stay, saying, “We’ve no idea what might come.”
More Moves Expected at Leeds This Window
Leeds United’s January transfer window isn’t over yet. Joe Gelhardt looks set to complete his loan move to Hull City, while Charlie Crew is also expected to leave on loan for more game time. Meanwhile, the return of Ilia Gruev could add depth to Leeds’ midfield options.
Although a move for Latte Lath now seems off the table, Leeds fans can expect more activity in the coming weeks as the club aims to strengthen its squad and push for promotion to the Premier League.
