Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Norway’s second division club, Sogndal IL starlet Edmund Baidoo this summer, as per Ghana Soccer Net.
Despite enjoying a stellar campaign last term, the Whites ended the season on a disappointing note having lost to Southampton in the Championship playoff final.
As a result, they have failed to get promoted to the Premier League and it has been reported that after failing to gain promotion, the Yorkshire club have suffered a big financial blow so they need to sell some of their star man to balance the books.
Crysencio Summerville, Wilfried Gnonto and Georginio Rutter have all been linked with a move away from the club in recent times. However, even if Leeds cash-in on several of their star men, they would be hoping to mount a top-two charge in the Championship next season so they are seemingly exploring the market to reinforce the squad.
However, considering their financial issues, they can’t afford to spend big so the Peacocks seemingly want to make low-cost signings this summer.
Leeds considering signing Baidoo
According to the report by Ghana Soccer Net, Leeds have identified Baidoo as a serious target to bolster the attack and they could attempt to sign him over the coming weeks.
However, the report states that signing the 18-year-old won’t be easy for the Whites as Brighton and Hove Albion are also keen on acquiring his service.
The youngster is a right-footed right-winger and enjoyed a promising campaign in the second-division Norwegian league last term, scoring six goals and registering three assists in 14 appearances. So, it appears after being impressed by the Ghanaian’s displays last season, Daniel Farke’s side have registered their interest in signing him.
Therefore, should Leeds eventually decide to sell Summerville over the coming weeks then purchasing Baidoo could be a shrewd decision to replace the Dutchman.
The youngster still has three years left in his current contract with Sogndal so it remains to be seen how much money the Norwegian side demand to sell their star man if Leeds eventually formalise their interest over the coming days.
