Latest news: Leeds United could look to sign PEC Zwolle star Anselmo Garcia McNulty this summer, as per the Dutch outlet Voetbal International.
Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu were the mainstays of the Peacocks‘ defence last season. However, the former joined the club on a loan deal from Tottenham Hotspur and has now returned to his parent club.
It has been reported that Daniel Farke’s side are willing to sign the 26-year-old permanently but it might be difficult for them to do that by matching Spurs’ asking price. So, perhaps, Leeds have started to look for alternative options in the market if they eventually fail to sign Rodon in the upcoming transfer window.
According to the report by VI, Leeds have registered their interest in signing McNulty and could make a swoop to acquire his service over the coming weeks.
However, the report says that PEC don’t want to let their star man leave this summer with Leicester City also previously expressing their interest in signing him. So, the Peacocks will have to overcome a few hurdles to get this deal done.
Latest news: McNulty to Leeds
The Seville-born Irishman came through the Real Betis academy before joining VfL Wolfsburg back in 2019. He joined the PEC last summer and showcased glimpses of his qualities in the Eredivisie last campaign, scoring twice and registering as many assists in 31 league appearances.
The 21-year-old, standing at 6ft 2in tall, is a left-footed centre-back but is also comfortable playing in the left-back position. The defender is quick, good in the air and is efficient in defensive contributions.
McNulty is still very young and has plenty of time to develop his career so he could be a very good signing for Leeds with a view to the long-term future should they acquire his service.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Yorkshire club eventually manage to sign Rodon or look to purchase the PEC star to bolster their defensive department.
