Leeds United have made a surprise move for Bournemouth defender Max Aarons.
The signing of the 26-year-old right-back, who has played under Leeds‘ manager Daniel Farke before when they were at Norwich City together, is seen as a key target to bolster the squad before the transfer window closes.
Leeds’ Need for Reinforcements
Leeds United have been active in the transfer market, with their latest signing Largie Ramazani from Almeria.
The Former Belgium winger, who scored 3 goals and provided five assists in La Liga last season is expected to fill the gap left by Crysencio Summerville’s move to West Ham.
Yet with so little time left before the transfer window slams shut, it’s clear that more signings are needed.
Archle Gray’s move to Tottenham Hotspur has led to a void in the right-back slot.
Yet despite Jayden Bogle’s recent arrival from Sheffield United, Leeds still need further defensive reinforcements.
In addition, after Glen Kamara left for Rennes just last month the situation in midfield has become much more precarious.
Max Aarons: A Shrewd Signing
Leeds have reportedly made a move to sign Max Aarons on loan from Bournemouth, according to Football Insider.
Aarons, earning £35,000 a week, is considered a good addition to add a touch on both defensive solidity and attacking flair.
With their days together at Norwich, his closeness to Farke should help smooth his move.
Aarons has a wealth of experience, having played 90 times in the Premier League and 131 in the Championship.
During his time at Norwich he provided 5 goals and 13 assists. He was hailed by former boss David Wagner as “absolutely top class”, both as a player and a person.
At 26, Aarons still has plenty to offer and after limited game time last season with only 13 Premier League starts at Bournemouth, he may be looking for a change.
Leeds has the kind of tradition and facilities that would suit him well both in terms of enabling regular playing and once again active involvement with helping our club get back to the Premier League.
Competition for the Right-Back Spot
Once Aarons joins Leeds, the young man from Norwich City will bring Jayden Bogle into competition for the right-back position.
So Bogle could find himself locked in a fight with Aarons for the starting berth, which is nothing but good news for Leeds.
Healthy competition often brings out the best in players, and this could be a crucial factor in Leeds’ push for promotion.
Aarons, a former England Under-21 international with 27 caps to his name, may not have made it to elite level as a right-back.
But he certainly has the potential to compete for championship honors.
Another factor easily overlooked when considering Aarons’ possible impact is the fact that he is already familiar with Farke’s preferred style of play, this could make him an important player for Leeds in the coming season.
Leeds United’s pursuit of Max Aarons is a clear indication of their ambition as they look to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion.
With Aarons’ experience and quality, coupled with his previous working relationship with Farke, this could be a move that pays off for Leeds.
As the transfer window draws to a close, securing Aarons could be a significant boost to their chances of making a swift return to the Premier League.
