Dear friends, comrades, acquaintances and all Leeds United fans across the globe, I apologise.
I take full accountability for getting my hopes up along with Whites fans everywhere when Farke was first appointed. Oh how we rejoiced in the streets when the white smoke finally emerged. Finally a manager that knows the ropes, this is not his first rodeo. He knows hardship and controversy, and most importantly he knows the Championship and the Premiership.
I apologise profusely for having the audacity to allow myself the slightest emotion of joy as I gleefully counted down the days to the start of the football season like a child on Christmas Eve. How I missed the weekly therapy sessions of stress and anxiety, I kidded myself.
I am sorry that I got a little excited when rumours were swirling on potential signings, some even got as far as a medical, then to be disappointed once again and hungrily grasping at any kind of good news on almost any signing I could share with Leeds united fans. and I hold myself accountable with the masses who have placed immense pressure on these emerging youngsters. It is a huge demand from the fans, we know.
As a member of the media, I can only ask for forgiveness for contributing to the madness surrounding Leeds United and their upcoming premiership campaign. I take full responsibility for allowing that little bubble of excitement to build in my stomach over the summer and for permitting daydreams of the best comeback Yorkshire has ever seen.
However, it wouldn’t be Leeds United without a smattering of controversy, confusion and utter bewilderment. We wouldn’t be the Mighty Whites if we couldn’t weather a little storm here and there. We’ve been seen off the big bad wolf Bates days and we’ve gone up and down Leagues like a yoyo. We’ve had points deducted and still managed a play off final place. We’ve been in administration and pulled ourselves back out again. We’ve been here before selling players off at bargain basement prices, the reviewing of ridiculous contract deals and what is now known in football as “wantaway players”. We all know that we are up the proverbial creek without a paddle here, and stabilising the ship is the only thing Farke can do. Behind closed doors he is focusing on the team that he has on a revolving day to day basis, and it’s up to us as Leeds Fans to keep the ship sailing through the rough seas.
I know it’s hard right now to find the silver lining right now, or even a white, yellow and blue rainbow but keep the faith Leeds United fans. Farke might just be the magician we so badly need right here, right now. Let Farke focus on the football and let us march on together.
We are made of stern stuff. We are Leeds United.
