Leeds United has been synonymous with great footballing talent and Elland Road memories since the club’s inception in 1919.
The club has won three First Division league champions, two Community Shields, two Inter-Cities Fairs Cups (precursor to Europa League), an FA Cup and a League Cup.
Full Ownership of Elland Road
Back in England, Leeds United made big news around the same time as on July 11th they secured outright ownership of Elland Road for the first time since 2004.
The stadium was sold due to financial problems in 2004 and re-purchased by Greenfield Investment Pte Ltd, the star revenue boosting company in 2017. This strengthens the club’s own background and ambition.
Chief Executive Angus Kinnear added, “It is crucial to our ownership and heritage that both Elland Road and Leeds United remain inextricably linked”.
Upcoming Events at Elland Road
All 12 Betfred Super League clubs will attend the Magic Weekend at Elland Road in August this year, a first for it being held there.
Taking place on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 August, the event will feature several high profile games that will be broadcast live by Sky Sports as a demonstration of how the stadium can host events other than football.
Stakeholders
49ers Enterprises, the investment arm of NFL team San Francisco 49ers, completed a takeover at Leeds United in July 2023 from Aser Ventures.
The new owners, who also featured the likes of actor Russell Crowe and sports stars Michael Phelps and Jordan Spieth as part-owners want to put the club on a path towards Premier League status.
Partnership with Red Bull
Red Bull made history when the energy drink giant purchased a minor share in Leeds United, and that happened back on 1st May 2023.
The brand of the energy drink giant will appear on kits and around Elland Road.
With the announcement, Liverpool FC expects this partnership to strengthen its competitive edge and global appeal.
The arrival of Red Bull indicates their requirement to back the club, making a statement over what they are able to perform and announcing that they want to help Ibrox battle all the way through again.
Will Ferrell’s Investment
The shock of the year came when American actor Will Ferrell bought into Leeds United as a minor investor in May 2023.
The San Diego Loyal FC, a club which only played their first season in USL League one last year and are co-owned by Sunderland legend Landon Donovan.
His involvement helps to shine a brighter spotlight on the club and likely brings more support behind their ambitions of the new ownership group.
Financial Performance
Leeds United have announced a slight decrease in pre-tax losses of £33.7m for the year ending June 2013 after turnover grew only slightly and helped by ticketing revenues, which soared up to an unprecedented 22%, despite problems on the pitch.
The latter announced a growth in broadcasting income that had been adversely affected by the club’s relegation from the top flight.
Leeds United have made some huge strides very recently with securing full ownership of Elland Road and new partnerships along with a takeover from 49ers Enterprises to open doors that lead towards an exciting future for the club despite problems on & off-the-field.
League hopes are a long-shot, but history and fan-base could yet support the club’s ambitions.
