Manor Solomon, the 25-year-old Israeli footballer, is on loan to Leeds United from Tottenham Hotspur for the season.
The attacking player hasn’t managed to break into the main squad under Tottenham’s manager Ange Postecoglou and, despite his strong skills, is now struggling for significant game time with Leeds under Daniel Farke.
So far, he has played six matches but has mostly been used as a substitute, hampered by a recent hamstring injury.
Solomon is keen to secure a starting position but still needs to prove his worth to the team.
Shakhtar Donetsk’s Financial Frustration
Solomon’s journey to Leeds involved complicated transfers from his time with Shakhtar Donetsk, where he gained prominence before joining Fulham under a special UEFA ruling due to the Ukraine crisis.
Shakhtar initially signed Solomon for €6 million from Israel’s Maccabi Petah Tikva, developing his talent and value, which later peaked at around €15 million.
However, since moving to Fulham, Tottenham, and now Leeds, Shakhtar has received no transfer compensation, causing frustration for their management.
Shakhtar’s director, Serhii Palkin, recently voiced his discontent to the Swiss media.
He expressed disappointment over losing millions, saying they invested in Solomon’s career growth, only to be cut out of any financial gain due to unforeseen transfer policies during the ongoing Ukraine conflict.
With UEFA’s ruling permitting players to exit, Shakhtar lost out financially.
Solomon’s Future at Leeds United
While Solomon has shown flashes of his talent, his injury and limited appearances may keep him from a permanent Leeds move.
The club is balancing squad needs and financial constraints, and Solomon’s position in the team is not yet secure.
For Shakhtar, the entire situation underscores the financial and moral challenges posed by current football regulations during times of crisis.
