Tottenham Hotspur are expected to not look for a switch of Leeds United young talent Harry Gray, after his brother Archie Gray was signed by the Spurs earlier in the summer.
Former Tottenham and Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who gave his verdict on the Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.
Paul Robinson’s Take on the Harry Gray Situation
Robinson, who boasts strong links to both sides, has stressed that there is currently no potential for the 15-year-old midfielder to join.
He said: “Harry Gray is obviously very highly rated up in Leeds and his brother has already stepped up but he’s still only young and hasn’t played any senior football.”
“Harry’s only 15, so that decision is a little way off yet,” Robinson said.
He also spoke of the Gray family’s rich footballing heritage, referencing his father and grandfather who both featured for Scotland positively.
Leeds Academy’s Rising Star
Harry Gray is regarded as one of the best prospects coming through Leeds United’s academy, in his performances so far impressing both coaches and fans.
His elder brother Archie Gray made his first-team debut for Tottenham at 17 and has since established himself as a key player under manager Daniel Farke.
It sparked talk that Harry could be heading the same way, but Robinson insists it is far too early to start talking about him leaving.
No Deal on the Horizon
Robinson compared him to another Leeds academy player, Finlay Gorman, who recently joined Manchester City for a fee of £5 million.
Nevertheless, he made clear that there is not a deal in the works to transfer Harry Gray at this time, despite Tottenham keeping a close eye on his development.
Robinson concluded: “Harry needs to concentrate on playing football in a real environment and for now he must commit with Leeds United.”
He is from a great football family, but he has to learn first before dreaming about such big strikes.
This situation highlights the challenges young talents face, weighing up opportunities at their present clubs against interest from Premier League heavyweights.
And at present, Gray’s career lies with Leeds United who are perfecting the art of developing him.
