Once again Leeds United are on the hunt in the transfer market, this time looking to secure a deal with Ajax before the transfer deadline.
The Whites have set their sights on another player from that club having signed Manor Solomon, a success which will further strengthen their squad.
Leeds Sign Solomon Despite Late Ajax Interest
Leeds United officially revealed on Tuesday night that Manor Solomon had completed his move to Elland Road on a season-long loan.
The 25-year-old winger had visited Leeds for his medical last Saturday but negotiations took another few days as a result of both clubs working out the agreement’s finer details.
Although it might be seen as a fever of excitement, Ajax was in the last analysis unable to keep Solomon away.
Leeds managed to seal the deal, showing just how big of a win this signing is for the club.
Solomon said, “it was the opportunity to play in front of enthusiastic Leeds fans that persuaded him to pick Leeds over other offers” including opportunities of top-flight football in other leagues.
In a wider context, the arrival of Solomon after competition from Ajax is a powerful statement by Leeds.
Leeds Now Looking to Swoop for Owen Wijndal
But Leeds aren’t content with just that, and the club are now looking to capture Ajax left-back Owen Wijndal.
According to the Dutch news outlet AD.NL as reported by Leeds Live, several clubs want the 24-year-old full-back including Leeds United.
Werder Bremen and Galatasaray are also in the run, but Leeds is hopeful to make another successful swoop.
Wijndal joined Ajax from AZ Alkmaar in 2022 in a transfer worth £8.4 million.
However, he has recently got into bad health and is now ‘bannees’, which in Amsterdam means that the club is open to selling him.
Ajax believes if they let Wijndal go this summer they will get a decent fee for him, and Leeds may just be the team to cut that check.
Who is Owen Wijndal?
Throughout his career, Owen Wijndal has been a talented left back even though he has recently struggles at Ajax but Wijndal still has much potential.
He is still only 24 years old and will have plenty of time to grow and improve.
He has made 11 appearances for the Netherlands’ main team, although he last featured for them during Euro 2020.
While at AZ Alkmaar, Wijndal had 143 games, with 4 goals and 27 assists to his name before he finally left for Ajax.
Even at Ajax, he still managed to give 32 games and 6 assists, underlining his skills in both defensive and attacking roles.
Ajax hope to sell, but this could be just the chance for Leeds to strengthen their squad that sends in a versatile and energetic left-back.
Leeds United Strengthen Their Squad
Leeds United are clearly not done yet in the transfer market.
With the signing of Manor Solomon and now their interest in Owen Wijndal, the club is showing ambition and intent to compete at the highest level.
Fans will be eager to see if Leeds can pull off another coup and add more depth and quality to their team.
As the transfer window edges closer to its deadline, Leeds supporters will be watching closely to see if their club can secure another key signing to boost their hopes for the upcoming season.
