Raphinha shoots and scores for Leeds

No Tricks but Plenty of Treats for Leeds as Raphinha Raptures Norwich!

Leeds United finally recorded their first Premier League away win of the season, as Raphinha shines for the Whites in a must win clash against Norwich City.

A trip to Carrow Road for Leeds saw them needing a colossal three points; knowing that they would leap jump Burnley out of the relegation zone was crucial for the Whites after a lacklustre start to the season. This was Halloween so Leeds would always be hoping for no tricks but certainly some treats against a Norwich team who have seemingly come up from the Championship, where they left off in their last Premier League Campaign, having won not one of their ten games so far.

Leeds United Highlights Against Norwich City

Today’s game from Leeds wasn’t necessarily the most entertaining in terms of providing flexibility across the pitch, although the resilience was something that was acquired of Bielsa’s men to get past Norwich. After the home sides 7-0 drubbing away at Stamford Bridge, the Canaries knew they had to put a better showing of themselves after an embarrassing result the previous weekend.

Leeds initially let Norwich build confidence by allowing them time on the ball and creating some close chances. Despite Norwich not having an attempt on target at half time, they had chances that just narrowly creeped past the post; which poised the Whites a few issues. Although Leeds did have chances of their own, especially when Dan James latched onto the ball and went past Krul, although Hanley to the rescue for Norwich clearing it off the line. The first half was quite an open half without providing the quality that Leeds are capable of against an indecisive Norwich side.

The second half proved that neither side wanted to come away with anything less than three points. Leeds took on board the message and in particular so did Raphinha who had been involved throughout every attack that Leeds created. Dan James sent Raphinha on a run and skipped by three players making Norwich look laughable before dispatching it into the net. It sent the Leeds supporters crazy in the corner with joy and happiness oozing with relief.

That didn’t last long however, United at their most vulnerable conceded a corner which was so poorly conceded. I think everyone had to take some type of blame in particular Meslier. The Whites number one didn’t command it well enough and was very tedious to come for the ball. Questions were not asked for long with Rodrigo shooting from distance and putting it beyond Krul in the Norwich goal. In the end Leeds were worthy of taking all three points despite making heavy weather of the game in general. The satisfying feeling was coming away with all three points in what was definitely not a given victory going into the match. Plenty to take away with both positives and negatives. Players who are a cause for concern and questions asked of would be Harrison, Roberts and Klich. Harrison more today with him really struggling for form and the disappointment of his final third play and general performances not hitting the heights of where they should be, for a Premier League player.
