Former Leeds United captain Liam Cooper lines up a shock move to CSKA Sofia in Bulgaria.
A bit-part player last season, Cooper fell out of favor before ending his 10-year association with Leeds this summer.
The 33-year-old defender made just eight starts in the Championship, with Pascal Struijk and Ethan Ampadu earning priority as younger options.
Max Wober also coming back into the squad made regular football even more remote for Cooper.
While in discussions over his future with Leeds, Cooper was not certain to get the game time he desired.
He was then rumored to be on his way to Blackburn Rovers and Hull City, however both fell through.
Currently, he has decided to leave his comfort zone and begin a new life chapter in Bulgaria.
As per details, terms have been agreed with CSKA Sofia and he will soon fly out to undergo a medical.
International Break for Leeds United Players
Meanwhile Leeds United’s current squad are on international duty as Cooper looks to the future.
A number of stars have been called up to represent their countries, including Wales, Japan, Austria, and the USA.
This break gives some players a chance to showcase their talents on a bigger stage while those not involved internationally enjoy a short rest before the next big game.
The Leeds have also thrash Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 aside before wrestling Hull City to ground via a massive 4-0 victory last Saturday, and they will go into the game with Burnley high on confidence.
Farke’s men are currently fourth in the league and are keen to keep the momentum going as the season heats up.
Leeds Miss Out on Daniel Jebbison
Young striker Daniel Jebbison was reportedly one of the challenges that Leeds was missing out in their summer transfer dealings.
The club was interested in taking him on loan from Bournemouth, but manager Daniel Farke’s refusal to guarantee game time meant the move fell through.
Instead, he chose Watford as they guaranteed him more minutes on the pitch.
Journalist Graeme Bailey explained, “The only reason he’s gone to Watford is they can guarantee the playing time, but Leeds couldn’t. Leeds had bigger priorities but are happy with the deals they did.”
Looking Ahead
Leeds United’s focus now is on continuing their strong start to the season.
With key players on international duty and the rest preparing for Burnley, the team aims to push higher up the Championship table.
As Cooper looks set to move abroad, Leeds will keep building towards a competitive and successful campaign ahead.
