FINALLY!
Daniel Farke is set to become the new manager of Leeds United. Rumours around Farke have been circulating over the last few weeks and we are led to believe that a deal is at an advanced stage. Farke, who recently managed Borussia Monchengladbach, where he claimed victories against both Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund was apparently shown around Thorp Arch, the Leeds United training ground, last week.
What can we expect? I’m sure the Leeds United faithful will enjoy the way he sets his sides up to play. He likes to play on the front foot, attacking football whilst keeping the ball on the deck in a dominant style which normally sees his sides setup in 4-2-3-1 formation. This should be refreshing as the Elland Road crowd haven’t had much to cheer about in the last two seasons. Having to endure the narrow system of Jesse Marsch and the old school hoofball of Sam Allardyce, this appointment could really get the 49ers and the supporters pulling in the same direction which when it happens is a real force to be reckoned with.
His record in the Championship is nothing short of excellent, although his first season at Norwich didn’t go exactly as planned, as they finished 14th. He does boast two promotions though. Farke led Norwich to two Championship titles with a points total of 94 and 97 respectively, scoring a combined total of 168 goals and conceding 93. People seem to focus heavily on Farke’s time in the Premier League with Norwich, but many seem to forget that their investment was virtually non existent and coupled with the loss of key player Emi Buendia.
Farke, whose rugged, Bond villain like appearance suits that of Leeds United, especially on the touchline at the annual September meet in South Bermondsey with Millwall. Don’t be fooled though, as he is very down to earth, respectful and also transparent during interviews. This is always beneficial to supporters, as shown by Marcelo Bielsa.
Will Farke be able to lead Leeds United back to the Premier League at the first attempt? Only time will tell. I’m fairly certain come 6th August, when the whistle is blown at home to Cardiff City, that Elland Road will be as raucous as ever and fully behind the new man in charge.
