Leeds United are back at the top of the Championship table after a big 1-0 win against Middlesbrough on Tuesday night.
With just five games left to play, the Whites are now in the driving seat to get promoted to the Premier League.
The goal came early from Dan James, who scored in the second minute after a lovely cross from Manor Solomon.
It was a messy finish, but it went in and that’s all that matters. Leeds had two more goals, from Ao Tanaka and Patrick Bamford, but both were ruled out for offside.
Replays show they should have stood, but Leeds still managed to hold on for the win.
Big Three Points in the Bag
This wasn’t just any win. It came on the same night that Sheffield United lost to Millwall and Burnley only drew with Derby County.
That means Leeds climbed right back into first place, just days after dropping out of the top two. The timing couldn’t be better with only five games to go.
Leeds are now two points ahead of Sheffield United and have a better goal difference too. That could be important if the race stays tight.
Burnley and Sheffield United still have to play each other, which means one or both will drop points.
What Leeds Need for Promotion
Leeds can now focus on what’s in front of them. They have 15 points left to fight for. If they win four out of their five games, they’re basically guaranteed promotion.
That would take them to 97 points, enough to beat both Burnley and Sheffield United if results go as expected.
Even better, clever prediction people at Opta say Leeds now have a 90.82% chance of going up automatically.
They think Leeds will end the season with 95 points, which might even be enough to win the league.
But the job’s not done yet. The team needs to keep focus and win their home games.
Three of the last five are at Elland Road against Preston, Oxford, and Stoke. If Leeds win those, that could be enough on its own to seal promotion.
Final Push for the Premier League
Daniel Farke and his players know the pressure is on. But after a strong showing at Boro and other results going their way, the belief is back.
The fans are dreaming, and the players just need to stay calm and keep pushing.
Promotion is within reach, Leeds just need to finish strong.
