Leeds United will once again need to add a few players during the January transfer window as the season moves on.
The summer transfer window closed almost three weeks ago and, as Leeds fans know only too well, many of the Whites’ last-minute signings are yet to feature heavily.
Only Tottenham loanee Manor Solomon among the new arrivals has won a starting place.
Meanwhile, Leeds CEO Angus Kinnear rated the club’s transfer business a B+ but suggested there are still some deficiencies in the squad.
Need for More Striking Options
Attack is one key department Leeds have to think about.
Manager Daniel Farke was left disappointed with the lack of new No 10 arriving during the summer but his need for added firepower up top is more important than ever now.
Promising young forward Mateo Joseph has led the line well, but at just 20 years old, he is still developing his finishing skills.
A lot has been said about his potential, but the inability to take chances, such as a miss on goal against Burnley may also be pointing towards the need for an experienced striker.
Targeting Danny Ings
In this scenario, Leeds must now make a move for Danny Ings in January.
The 31-year-old striker is a prolific goal-scorer and an experienced presence up front, the ideal complement to Joseph’s youthful offensive pop.
Ings has had injury issues of his own, but he won’t be expected to play every single game.
Instead he can be used off the bench to give a bit of spark when necessary or to start when Joseph needs a rest.
A Missed Opportunity in the Summer
And somewhat surprisingly, Leeds United tried to sign Ings in the summer window but failed.
This season, however, Ings has managed only 13 minutes of playing time at West Ham so far.
Were he to move to Leeds, there is every chance he would play more often and have a genuine say at a club in desperate need of someone who can score the goals that will ease them through a grueling Championship season.
