Leeds United may have a fresh chance to sign Fabio Carvalho this January after Brentford’s record £27.5m signing failed to find his footing in the Premier League.
The Portuguese playmaker, previously linked to Leeds during the summer, could be on the move again as his father urges him to leave Brentford in search of regular game time.
Carvalho’s Struggles at Brentford
Carvalho’s move to Brentford hasn’t gone as planned. With just two Premier League starts and nine substitute appearances this season, the 21-year-old has managed a total of 284 minutes in the league.
Despite these limited opportunities, he has contributed two goals and three assists across all competitions, showing glimpses of his quality.
However, his lack of consistent minutes has sparked frustration, with Carvalho’s father taking to Instagram later deleting his post to push for a move away from the London club.
Leeds United could be the perfect destination for the talented midfielder, as the club remains keen on strengthening their squad to maintain their push for promotion back to the Premier League.
Leeds’ Ongoing Search for a No.10
Leeds have been in search of a creative midfielder since the summer transfer window. While they missed out on Carvalho earlier, their interest in bringing in a No.10 remains alive.
Brendan Aaronson has been filling the role this season, with four goals and an assist in the Championship, but manager Daniel Farke is keen to add more depth and competition in the attacking midfield position.
Speaking about Carvalho, Leeds chief Angus Kinnear confirmed their previous interest and hinted at the club’s ambitions to shop at the highest level.
“We thought we were first in the queue for Carvalho, if it was going to be a Premier League loan,” Kinnear explained.
To strengthen our team and make it better, we have to shop at the highest level possible.
Potential Competition and Transfer Challenges
While Leeds seem like a natural fit, any move for Carvalho may face stiff competition from other clubs.
The player’s talent and potential are well-recognised, and a deal could depend on Brentford’s willingness to let him go.
Leeds also have other transfer targets for the January window, including Manchester City’s James McAtee and Swedish left-back Daniel Svensson.
However, Carvalho’s creative spark and Premier League experience make him a priority for Leeds as they look to solidify their Championship campaign.
A Win-Win Move?
For Carvalho, joining Leeds could provide the regular game time he craves, while Leeds would gain a dynamic playmaker to boost their promotion push.
As January approaches, all eyes will be on Elland Road to see if Leeds can finally land their man.
