Leeds United are reportedly keen on signing Lausanne Sport’s Alvyn Sanches, a 20-year-old attacking midfielder with “enormous creativity.”
Sanches, who has scored nine goals and provided three assists this season, is being linked with a £3.5 million move to Elland Road.
However, Lausanne Sport, led by former Liverpool defender Stephane Henchoz, are fighting hard to keep their star player.
Henchoz believes Sanches should stay until the end of the season to help Lausanne push for their first Swiss league title since 1964.
Henchoz said, “We will do everything to keep him. Alvyn will leave to play in a major league one day, but wouldn’t it be better for him to stay and achieve something great here first?”
A Tough Decision for Sanches
Sanches has publicly stated his desire to move to an “intermediate club” that can offer him a step up in his career.
This has put Leeds United in a strong position, as they’ve proven to be a launching pad for players like Raphinha, now a key figure at Barcelona.
Despite his ambition, Henchoz remains optimistic about keeping Sanches, saying, “Alvyn has a deep desire to finish the season with us.”
But if Leeds or another club meet Lausanne’s asking price, Sanches could be on his way in January.
Leeds Could Use a Player Like Sanches
Leeds United might benefit greatly from signing Sanches, especially with the squad lacking depth in the number ten role.
While Brenden Aaronson has shown promise, there are limited options to fill this creative position.
Sascha Stauch, who coached Sanches for Switzerland’s Under-21s, praised the player, saying, “He has enormous creativity, a good finishing rate, and understands football very well. He’s modest but knows what he wants.”
The January transfer window will reveal whether Leeds can land Sanches or if he will stay in Switzerland to try and make history with Lausanne.
