The potential for Leeds United winger Jack Harrison to move permanently to Everton has been severely enhanced by the Friedkin Group.
The Friedkin Group this week agreed in principle to buy 94% of the shares at Everton from current owner Farhad Moshiri.
The deal should bring much-needed financial security to the club as they prepare for their new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock next season.
Harrison’s Loan Deal at Everton
Jack Harrison expected to make Everton move permanent.
Harrison also has a clause in his Leeds United contract that enables him to leave on loan as long as Leeds are not a Premier League club.
That clause saw him loaned to Everton after Leeds’ relegation at the end of the 2022/23 season.
Despite having signed a new contract at Leeds until 2028, Harrison appears to be in an uneasy position at Elland Road.
Everton would have to pay for Harrison in full if Leeds earned promotion to the Premier League.
Financial Impact on Leeds United
The sale of Harrison could land Leeds United a nice profit on the player.
Leeds initially shelled out £11 million to Manchester City for Harrison in 2021, and with his fee already in part written off, the club are likely to make a sizeable profit on him.
Also, Harrison would be an appealing option for Everton due to his Premier League experience and age.
His displays this season, which have included seven outings overall and four Premier League starts under Sean Dyche, have shown that he is a key player for the Toffees.
Takeover’s Impact on Everton’s Future
The Friedkin Group takeover should improve Everton’s financial position, which may make space for more arrivals and retain key players like Harrison.
Everton will then have more money to spend once the takeover clears regulatory bodies such as the Premier League and Financial Conduct Authority.
Leeds United, meanwhile, could benefit from a promotion, giving them a stronger bargaining position in any negotiations.
Harrison’s loan clause will stay active if Leeds fail to secure promotion, meaning Everton would not need to buy him permanently under such circumstances.
The takeover is a big development that might secure Jack Harrison’s long-term future at Everton, while also benefiting Leeds United financially.
