According to the Daily Mail, Leeds United are keen on Hoffenheim’s forward Mergim Berisha during the January transfer window.
The Whites are looking forward to bolstering their promotion hopes by adding the 26 year old to their squad .
Leeds United Need More Firepower
Leeds under manager Daniel Farke, finds itself at the top of the Championship table. However, there has been certain results in recent matches that show loopholes in their game plan which might be a cause for concern in any close games.
For instance, during the match against Hull City on 4th January, a friendly competition, where Abu Kamara scored in the 89th minute, resulted in a tie at 3-3, losing Leeds some crucial points.
Presently, Burnley is only behind by a point and hence Leeds need to expand their squad if they wish to remain competitive in the promotion race.
Until now, Joel Piroe has done an incredible job of being the key goal scorer for Leeds this season. At the same time, Patrick Bamford has struggled recently, and Mateo Joseph who is a youth striker is still trying to fully adapt to Elland Road.
If we were to consider the possibility of Bamford transferring in the January transfer window, Leeds would require some additions to solve the attacking problem. This is where Berisha comes into the picture.
Why Mergim Berisha Could Be Key
Berisha’s got quite an impressive history by playing alongside big teams like RB Salzburg and Augsburg.
Even though he hasn’t been able to play well during his time in the Bundesliga this year, as he only scored once in 17 games, I believe that with his experience and skills he will be helpful in Leeds.
This year he is able to step back on the football field after a very long period of recovering from injuries. Turning 26 makes him a cake walk in an athletic career, and it seems that Daniel Farke could be the one to maximize Berisha’s ability.
New beginnings at Elland Road appear to be the reset needed to kick off Berisha’s career as well as fortify Leeds in their promotion drive.
Strengthening Leeds’ Attack
Leeds United have relied heavily on Piroe to deliver the goods up front. Bringing in Berisha could ease the pressure on Piroe and add more competition in the attacking department.
Berisha’s physical presence and ability to link up play could suit Farke’s style, providing Leeds with another weapon in their bid for automatic promotion.
While adding depth to the defence is also important, a move for Berisha could give Farke more flexibility with his tactics.
The Hoffenheim forward may not be the most prolific striker, but his experience and hunger to prove himself could be just what Leeds need in the second half of the season.
The January transfer window is crucial for Leeds United as they aim to secure a Premier League return. Signing Mergim Berisha would not only strengthen their squad but also send a clear message to their rivals.
With just over half the season left to play, every point will count, and Leeds need all the help they can get.
Let’s see if this reported interest turns into a deal that could make all the difference at Elland Road.
