Leeds United’s Danish right-back, Rasmus Kristensen, is set to leave the club permanently as Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt have decided to trigger the option to buy him.
After a loan spell in the 2023/24 season with Roma, Kristensen moved to Frankfurt on a loan-to-buy deal.
Now, after just a few months in Germany, it looks like the 27-year-old has impressed the club’s bosses enough to secure a permanent move.
Leeds United’s Situation with Kristensen
Leeds United faced a challenging period after their relegation from the Premier League, leading to several players, including Kristensen, moving on loan.
He joined Leeds from Red Bull Salzburg in 2022 for around £10 million, but his time at Elland Road didn’t go as planned.
Despite a growing reputation in Europe, Kristensen struggled to make a lasting impact with the Whites.
In the summer of 2023, Leeds loaned Kristensen to Roma, where he played consistently, but it was his recent performances in the Bundesliga that caught Frankfurt’s eye.
Starting all nine games across all competitions for the club, the right-back has solidified his place in the squad.
Eintracht Frankfurt to Seal the Deal
According to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Eintracht Frankfurt are ready to make the deal permanent, with the transfer fee set between €10m and €12m (around £8.4m to £10m).
The deal will see Kristensen leave Leeds permanently, with the Whites recouping most of the amount they initially paid for the defender.
Kristensen’s strong performances in Germany make it unlikely that Leeds would see him return, even if they regain promotion to the Premier League.
His consistent showings in the Bundesliga and previous experience in Serie A with Roma prove that his future lies at a higher level, away from the Championship.
Financial Impact for Leeds United
For Leeds, the decision to sell Kristensen could help ease financial pressure as they look to rebuild after relegation.
Despite the disappointment of Kristensen not becoming the asset they had hoped for, the potential fee means the club will not suffer a significant loss.
If the transfer hits the higher end of the reported fee range, the club could essentially break even on the deal.
Future Prospects
Kristensen’s departure is part of Leeds’ ongoing restructuring efforts to focus on players who can help them achieve promotion.
Although his move marks the end of his time at Elland Road, the deal could be beneficial for all parties involved.
Leeds will use the funds to strengthen their squad, while Kristensen will continue to play at the top level in Germany.
