Leeds United have received a huge boost in pursuit of Nathaniel Phillips as Liverpool are open to letting the defender leave this summer, as per The Athletic.
The Yorkshire club are seemingly more busy selling players than signing as several players have been linked with a move away from the club in recent weeks.
It is believed that Leeds have suffered a huge financial blow after narrowly missing out on securing their Premier League status. So, it has been reported that they need to raise funds by selling some stars to balance the books and an amount of around £100m is required to generate.
They have already sold Archie Gray to Tottenham Hotspur in a £40m deal but other youngsters like Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter and Wilfried Gnonto have also been linked with a move away.
In the meantime, Leeds have also been looking to sign players to strengthen the squad and Daniel Farke has seemingly earmarked defence is an area that needs reinforcements first.
Leeds receive boost to sign Phillips
Therefore, the Peacocks are closing in on a deal to sign Joe Rodon permanently after the Welshman spent on loan last season. In addition to him, Leeds are reportedly also looking at signing Phillips from Liverpool.
The Athletic states that with the 27-year-old having entered the final year of his current contract, the Reds are ready to cash-in on him and they want a fee of around £8m for him.
The defender was on loan at Cardiff City last term but they can’t afford to sign him permanently, hence Leeds could get a clear pathway to purchase him this summer and that is a huge boost for them to seal the deal.
Phillips is an excellent defender and is efficient in the air, so he would be a solid acquisition for the Yorkshire club should they acquire his service in this transfer window.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Farke’s side eventually manage to sign him ahead of next season to reinforce their defensive department.
