Leeds United have reportedly made ‘contact’ with PEC Zwolle over a deal to sign Anselmo Garcia McNulty this summer, as per Football Insider.
With the new Championship season only three weeks away, the Whites have already started pre-season training. They have travelled to Germany to continue the preparation after playing one friendly game against League Two side Harrogate, winning the match 3-0. Daniel Farke’s side will play another game before the start of the season and it will be versus Valencia.
In the meantime, the Peacocks have been busy in the transfer market. After failing to gain the promotion last summer, they have endured a big financial blow so they have been more busy balancing the books by selling players rather than making new signings.
However, they have made a few new additions as Joe Rodon has joined the club permanently following a promising loan stint last season. Jayden Bogle has also joined from Sheffield United and Joe Rothwell has been signed on a loan deal from AFC Bournemouth.
However, Football Insider has now reported that Leeds are considering signing a new left-back before the start of next season as their only option to deploy in this role, Junior Firpo, has been linked with a move to Real Betis.
Leeds planning to sign Garcia
The report says Garcia has been identified as a serious option and Leeds have already made contact with Zwolle over this deal so they may sign him in this transfer window.
The 21-year-old, valued at around £1m by Transfermarkt, still has two years left in his current contract, therefore, the Yorkshire club can manage to secure his signature for an affordable price.
Having endured the financial blow, Leeds have been forced to explore bargain signing to reinforce their squad so, either they have made loan signing or cheap deals.
Garcia, standing at 6ft 1in tall, is a left-footed Irish defender – who has the ability to play in the centre-back position as well as the left-back role. So, they are planning to sign him as a potential replacement for Firpo.
It is going to be interesting to see whether Leeds eventually opt to sign Garcia this summer to strengthen the defence.
