Leeds United are reportedly in pole position to sign Blackburn Rovers ace Sammie Szmodics this summer, as per The Mirror.
The 28-year-old enjoyed a stellar campaign last term, scoring 33 goals and registering four assists in 48 appearances in all competitions. He was the Championship’s highest scorer and therefore, it is not a surprise to see the Whites have registered their interest in signing him.
Daniel Farke’s side would be aiming to mount a top-two charge next season and signing the best players of this division would help the German boss achieve that with Szmodics definitely one of those players last term.
According to the report by The Mirror, the Peacocks have expressed their interest in signing the Republic of Ireland international and could make a concrete approach over the coming days.
The 28-year-old is valued at around £6m by Transfermarkt and still has two years left in his current contract, therefore, Blackburn are expected to demand a large sum to let their star man leave.

Leeds lead race to sign Szmodics
The report says that Leeds aren’t the only club interested in acquiring his service as newly promoted Premier League club Ipswich Town are also plotting a swoop for him. But, the Yorkshire club are currently leading this race.
The Mirror also mentions that Blackburn are willing to extend Szmodics’ contract by offering him a salary hike and it is now going to be interesting to see what the player eventually decide to do.
Leeds have been more busy selling their stars to balance the books rather than signing new players as it has been reported that Farke’s side have suffered a huge blow financially having failed to gain the promotion last term.
The Whites have signed Joe Rothwell, Jayden Bogle and Joe Rodon, however, it appears Farke wants to add more reinforcements before the start of next season as the Yorkshire club have been linked with a few names in recent times.
Szmodics likes to play in the attacking midfield position and has already displayed his qualities in the Championship so he could be a shrewd acquisition for Leeds if they eventually manage to acquire his service this summer.
