Leeds United are reportedly in ‘negotiations’ with AS Roma to sell Diego Llorente this summer, as per the Italian outlet Il Tempo.
The 30-year-old moved to Elland Road from Real Sociedad for a fee of around £17m back in 2020. However, having joined the Peacocks, the Spaniard couldn’t serve the club properly due to injury problems before signing for the Giallorossi last year.
It has been reported that following an 18-month loan spell at the Stadio Olimpico, Llorente wants to continue playing in Serie A so he is pushing to leave Leeds this summer.
According to the report by Il Tempo(via Voce Giallo Rossa), Roma are interested in making Llorente’s loan deal permanent and have already started ‘negotiations’ with Leeds to get the deal done.
The report further claims that Leeds could accept a fee of around £4m, hence, the Giallorossi can manage to acquire his service for an affordable price.
Leeds in negotiations to sell Llorente
After failing to gain promotion, the Yorkshire club have reportedly suffered a big financial blow. So, they will reportedly be forced to cash-in on several of their star men to balance the books this summer.
Without the lure of the Premier League, it is going to be difficult for Daniel Farke’s side to keep hold of their star man and also sign top players. Nevertheless, selling Llorente, who has already entered his 30s, would be the right decision.
However, young players such as Wilfried Gnonto, Crysencio Summerville and Archie Grey have also been linked with a move away from the club in recent times.
So, if the Yorkshire club are eventually forced to sell any of them then that will certainly generate money to strengthen other areas of the squad, but it will be a disappointing outcome for them.
Therefore, it is going to be interesting to see how this transfer window unfolds for Farke’s side and whether they can manage to gain the promotion at the end of next season.
