Leeds United could reportedly attempt to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Oliver Skipp this summer, as per Leeds Live.
The 23-year-old came through the Lilywhites’ academy but he has found it difficult to secure his place in his boyhood club’s first eleven. So, he might be open to leaving to play regularly elsewhere and if that were to happen then the Whites could manage to get a deal done for him this summer.
The midfielder enjoyed a promising campaign out on loan at Norwich City under Daniel Farke in the 2020/2021 season and in that term, he helped the Canaries gain the promotion. Now, Leeds Live states that Leeds boss Farke is a ‘big admirer’ of the Englishman having enjoyed a successful season together at Carrow Road.
Farke’s side have recently sold Archie Gray to Tottenham and have signed Joe Rodon in a part-exchange deal, however, the report says that the Peacocks asked Skipp to be included in this move.
However, it has been reported that although Leeds failed to get a deal done for him this time around, they remain interested in him and could return with an offer later in the window.
Leeds could sign Skipp
After letting Gray leave the club, Farke would be hoping to purchase a new midfielder to replace the youngster. However, it would be difficult for Leeds to sign Skipp to bolster their midfield department.
The Tottenham star is a dynamic midfielder and also has an eye for passes, additionally he works extremely hard without possession. The youngster previously proved his worth in the Championship and considering he has become a more mature player, he would be an excellent acquisition for Leeds if they purchase him.
However, Skipp, valued at around £13m by Transfermarkt, still has three years left in his current contract, hence Spurs are expected to demand a big fee to let their academy graduate leave.
Therefore, amid the financial difficulties, Leeds might find it difficult to acquire their midfield target’s service by matching the North London club’s asking price.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether the Yorkshire club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to secure Skipp’s signature in this window.
