Leeds United are planning to make some crucial signings in the January transfer window as Daniel Farke seems to be determined to bolster his team.
One position that Leeds would like to address is the No.10 position. Brenden Aaronson is currently playing this position, but there are concerns whether he is able to perform at that level Leeds requires him to.
Aaronson, who was signed for £25 million, has only 9 goal contributions so far this season which is significantly lower than his set target of 30.
Since the main objective of Leeds is to get promotion, they might have to go into the market for another playmaker.
Leeds’ Links to James McAtee
Leeds United are interested in signing James McAtee, who is an English U21 midfielder and currently plays for Manchester City.
In the summer transfer window, they made an attempt to reach an agreement with City but their manager Pep Guardiola elected to retain him. Now, with the January window open, it could be a move for him.
Nonetheless, the competition for him will be memocious. Bayer Leverkusen, Fiorentina and Borussia Dortmund are among the big European clubs chasing him.
Additionally, there’s interest from four Premier League clubs including West Ham and Brentford.
Given the £25 million McAtee selling price allegedly given by Manchester City it becomes improbable for Leeds, who are presently playing in the Championship, to sign him.
Other No.10 Options for Leeds
McAtee might be unapproached hence Leeds will have to look for more options.
One player that the Whites were interested in acquiring during the market’s summer period is Fabio Carvalho currently on loan at Brentford.
The move is however most likely not to happen at the moment, Arsenal’s Emi Buendia has also been mentioned however he is not interested in moving to the Championship.
Brighton’s Julio Enciso, who has found game time hard to come by, could be an alternative. Ipswich’s Conor Chaplin is another possible target after impressing in the Championship this season.
But signing any Premier League player may depend on those clubs being able to replace them. Leeds’ hunt for a new No.10 will be crucial as they look to boost their promotion hopes.
Fans will be eagerly watching to see if Daniel Farke and the club can land the creative spark they need in this window.
