Pawel Cibicki, a former Leeds United forward, has expressed regret over the decision to transfer to Elland Road during the summer of 2017, stating that it’s the move which ruined his career.
The Polish striker picked Leeds over Leganés who were his other suitors during the transfer window, stating that he was convinced Leeds was a better option.
In an interview with Sportbladet Cibicki confirmed that such lucrative sums of money such as the ones he was receiving from Leeds only made his gambling addiction worse, especially considering that he was all by himself in England.
He said, “Everything went completely off the rails. The money I earned could be gone in an hour.”
Career Spirals Out of Control
Cibicki’s problems were only exacerbated in 2019 after he was caught forward fixing while he was with Elfsborg in Sweden to subsequently receive a four year ban.
The striker’s career ended in disarray as he received a yellow card in what can only be described as match fix.
Cibicki admitted that it became easy to borrow money which was a bad habit, and the bonuses he received from Leeds United were the confidence he simply gave himself to repay.
He is currently 30 and has overcome his gambling issues, so he has started to share his story to encourage people not to make the same mistakes he did.
