Leeds United managed to secure all the points from Sheffield Wednesday’s visit today and are now once again sitting comfortably at the top of the Championship table.
The end score of 3-0 might suggest Leeds had the better of the match, but Sheffield Wednesday sometimes made it difficult for Leeds to adapt to their attacking style.
This victory over Sheffield United enabled Leeds to restart its title defence which had almost been snuffed a day earlier.
Goals from Manor Solomon and Largie Ramazani along with Ao Tanaka completed the win for Leeds in front of their Elland Road fans.
Tanaka’s Brilliant Goal Impresses Grayson
Leeds had standout performances during the match and Ao Tanaka was one of them as well.
It was Tanaka who scored the third goal for Leeds in injury time and made a perfect execution and decision.
Largie Ramazani took a shot at the goal which gave Tanaka the opportunity to cleverly flick the ball that went right past Sheffield Wednesday keeper James Beadle to make the score 3-0.
Former Leeds United manager Simon Grayson was full of praise for Tanaka.
Speaking on LUTV, he called the goal “a beautiful finish” and added, “I love watching this kid play. I think he’s an outstanding talent.”
Grayson also highlighted how Tanaka is starting to find his scoring touch. “It’s nice to see him being rewarded with goals in the last few weeks,” Grayson said.
Tanaka’s Impact Growing for Leeds
This season, Tanaka has established himself as a key player for Leeds, without a doubt. He continues to astonish the fans with his tasty mids and for now seems to be a fan favourite.
Tanaka’s versatility coupled with his goal-scoring capability truly makes for a top midfielder. “He fills in the gaps, understands the game so well, and reads it brilliantly,” Grayson said.
In another match, after Leeds defeated Derby County 2 – 0, Grayson commented on how Tanaka always ‘keeps the game simple’. This is the second time that Grayson has spoken more on Tanaka.
Leeds Push for Promotion
The victory against Sheffield Wednesday illustrates Leeds’ strength which they need in order to get promoted to the Premier League. While the Owls put up a difficult match, Leeds’ quality shone through in the dying minutes.
Leeds look ready for the battles ahead, especially with players like Tanaka coming to the forefront. As the fight for promotion remains the priority, the team must focus now.
As the season carries on, Leeds fans will want to see more of Tanaka and other members of the squad do something spectacular.
