When summer comes around and pre season is knocking on the door, every single football fan in the country expects their side to complete their business immediately. The expectations and impatience are a common theme, when sometimes a little bit of patience and understanding wouldn’t go a miss. The takeover by the San Francisco 49ers Enterprise Group has been rumbling on in the background for some time. This finally came to fruition and is just awaiting the green light from the non too urgent EFL.
Leeds United have been without a manager since the end of the season when it was confirmed that Sam Allardyce would not be continuing, a decision which was expected and also welcomed. The talk of which manager will next step into one of, if not, the most bonkers club in England has been the main focus for the last two weeks. There have been many calls of a ‘lack of urgency’ behind the scenes but maybe this is how the 49ers operate. Have we now got somebody in charge of our club who actually acts professional and performs quietly, rather than leaking information out to various outlets left, right and centre in order to boost their own egos?
In the NFL, the 49ers are renown for taking their time when appointing a coach or general manager (similar to a Director of Football). They go through a very thorough process, in order to select the correct candidate. Not only this but they also keep their cards very close to their chest and very rarely do they leak information until it’s officially announced. This week rumours have surfaced that they have used some form of AI (artificial intelligence) during the search for the next Leeds United manager. Also, when they find a target they want, in terms of a player, they are often very aggressive in their pursuit and they will often overpay if it’s somebody they so desperately want. This whole approach already seems far more organised, rather than Victor Orta throwing darts at a dartboard to see who he lands on in an attempt to resurrect their career at the hands of Leeds United.
Don’t get me wrong, pre season is upon us and the decision to return a month before the season is baffling and also somewhat of a risk. It’s usually around six weeks before the season kicks off when sides come back for training so whoever comes in must act promptly. Although, I think as supporters we need to take a deep breath, relax and see what happens from here on in during the short term. Are the 49ers going to get absolutely everything spot on? Maybe, maybe not but this approach we are seeing is a damn sight better and more of how a football club should be run. Patience.
