Journalist Adam Pope, of BBC Radio Leeds, has speculated that the free transfer exit of Patrick Bamford from Elland Road could be on the horizon.
The recommendation followed an unexpected event during the international break, in which left-back Junior Firpo featured as a striker for Dominican Republic.
Firpo has shone in that attacking brief and predictably, there have been calls for Bamford to be displaced as Leeds’ back-up forward.
Firpo’s New Role and Bamford’s Struggles
Firpo has quickly become a cult hero at Elland Road, whereas Bamford is currently out injured and floundering for form.
Bamford’s difficulties in the Championship, combined with missed opportunities such as penalties, have frustrated fans.
Firpo recently provided some assists and has played up front for his country, suggesting that Leeds could call on him further forward if necessary.
Bamford’s Contract and Leeds’ Plans
With Bamford’s ongoing fitness issues, there has been speculation Leeds could terminate his contract and allow him to depart for nothing.
Leeds didn’t bolster their options up top in the summer, and hence there are concerns over Leeds’ attack.
Manager Daniel Farke could see Junior Firpo as a potential emergency cover in the event of injuries among his squad.
Meanwhile, Bamford’s future at Leeds is uncertain as they battle with limited attacking options this season in the Championship.
