Joe Gelhardt’s future at Leeds United in doubt with the winger continuing to struggle for game time under manager Daniel Farke.
However, the 22-year-old forward has seen minutes difficult to come by from being used mostly as a late substitute.
Gelhardt signed a new long-term contract with the club but did not secure regular game time.
Carlton Palmer’s Warning
Ex-Leeds midfielder Carlton Palmer has suggested that Gelhardt might need to look for January move if things do not change.
Palmer noted his surprise that Gelhardt didn’t leave during the summer transfer window, with clubs like Ipswich Town showing interest.
“He needs to play football, and he’s just not getting any game time,” Palmer said.
Possible January Exit
Gelhardt was a player Leeds United had thought about loaning out over the summer, but by then it proved too late to sign another forward.
Palmer thinks Gelhardt will be ‘advised to leave’ in the next few weeks either on loan or permanently, as he needs regular minutes, to find the playing time he needs.
Looking Ahead
And with Gelhardt currently behind Mateo Joseph, Joel Piroe and Patrick Bamford in the pecking order, a fresh start away could well be the best next step for the young striker.
Gelhardt remains contracted to Leeds and with fans watching on, it will be interesting to see if his situation changes in the months ahead.
