There could soon be good news for fans of Leeds United regarding the redevelopment works at their iconic Elland Road stadium.
The news was revealed by club chief executive Angus Kinnear during a recent meeting with the Supporter Advisory Board held.
During the meeting, Kinnear addressed fans’ concerns about the future of the stadium and other important topics.
Hopes for Bigger Elland Road
In 2019, Leeds United celebrated its 100th year, so hopes had been renewed of expanding the capacity at Elland Road.
The objective is to grow the stadium capacity of 55,000 fans and up.
But little has come of those plans to date with the club’s financial position and their stay in the Premier League being big factors.
A stable run in the top division was seen as the key to getting the funding needed to expand the stadium.
Kinnear says he’s “hopeful” and there will be some good news on this in the near future.
He mentioned that the club has been putting a lot of work into plans for redevelopment.
He also asked for feedback from fans about pressing issues around Elland Road that may need addressing imminently.
Frustrations Over Germany Pre-Season Tour
The meeting also addressed the disappointment over Leeds United’s pre-season tour in Germany.
Supporters were unhappy after they’d been advised not to make the journey for their club’s two friendly matches.
The club said police in Germany had stopped fans from coming due to a crowded summer schedule with Euro 2024 football.
Kinnear said the tour was more focused on the technical side of things, rather than a selling experience for fans.
He said: “I don’t think anybody did (expect games to be played without fans) but, by the time we knew that fact and obviously this closure as well, it was too late for us.
He pledged that the club would do all it could to ensure fans can attend future pre-season tours.
What’s Next for Leeds and Elland Road?
Leeds United have played at Elland Road for over 100 years, and supporters are keen to watch the stadium develop with their club.
It would also allow more fans to go to matches, which in turn benefits the revenue that can be spent on matchday experience.
Ultimately, the Premier League’s status play a big role, however Kinnear’s recent comments give hope that something positive could be on the horizon.
Fans will just have to wait for the next update and hope that at long last, it features a Garden more beautiful than any of them could imagine.
With regard to future pre-season tours, Kinnear reassured the fans that the club is listening to their concerns.
Leeds will have to make sure fans come first when it comes where the squad travels in future summers.
With many big plans in the works, Leeds United supporters are eager for news and will be watching closely as the club moves forward.
