Leeds United are reported to be preparing an £8 million bid for the Coventry City player Ben Sheaf. Consequently, the club could be adding this player to their lineup soon.
The 26-year-old midfielder has been a crucial part of the Coventry squad which is now on the radar of Leeds manager Daniel Farke.
Who Is Ben Sheaf?
Ben Sheaf, an Arsenal graduate, is one of the key midfielders for Coventry as the years go by.
Sheaf’s career started in Coventry, after loan spells at Stevenage and Doncaster, where he helped the team clinch the title.
Ben Sheaf has made 132 appearances for the Sky Blues, showcasing his incredible defensive abilities combined with a range of impressive passing skills.
Sheaf has previously played in England’s U18 team and is generally considered to be a skillful and dependable midfielder.
Recently, Paul Robinson, a former Leeds goalkeeper praised Sheaf, saying: “He’s a good player. He came through the Arsenal academy, is 26 years of age, and is playing regularly at Coventry. The opportunity for someone to capitalise on Coventry’s financial situation might be what gets a deal done.”
Why Leeds Want Sheaf
Leeds United’s midfield already includes strong players such as Ilia Gruev, Ethan Ampadu, Ao Tanaka, and Joe Rothwell. Nevertheless, Sheaf could be a good enhancement for the team.
Robinson added:“Would he improve the squad? Yes, he would. Would you get him in every week? Arguably, he would be put in. A player like that would obviously make the team better.”
Besides Leeds, there are some premier clubs that are monitoring Sheaf’s developments.
However, there is a greater chance to transfer the player this month due to the financial requirements of Coventry.
Will Sheaf Join Leeds?
Sheaf is an interesting player to consider for Leeds, primarily because they need to bolster their midfield during the second half of the season and his release clause is just £8 million.
Given how other players like Tanaka and Rothwell are in decent form, it’s not clear who Sheaf would replace in the starting XI.
Daniel Farke has no problems not signing anyone right now but this is an opportunity to sign him, especially with Coventry open to the opportunities.
The transfer window continues to be open and it will be interesting to see whether Leeds will be looking to Sheaf or stick with their current squad.
For now, fans will be watching closely to see what happens next.
