The EFL has done a commendable job in announcing the referee team who will oversee the action packed Championship encounter that is set to occur on Sunday evening between Derby County and Leeds United at Pride Park.
In the game, the Leeds fan will recognize Andy Davies, the ex-footballer who is now in charge of refereeing the game.
Andy Davies: From Player to Referee
Andy Davies is a retired footballer who represented Gillingham, Portsmouth, and Yeovil Town at a professional level but was forced to quit at the age of 28 due to injury.
He is now a familiar face in the referee fraternity after hanging his boots. He is now with the Select Group 2 referees and has officiated in more than 200 Championship games.
Davies is regarded as a good omen for the team, Leeds United. It is said that in the eight matches he officiated for the Whites, they won five and drew two which is quite a reasonable record for the team from Yorkshire.
Leeds’ Last Game with Davies
The most recent match Davies officiated in was Leeds vs Bristol City held in August 2019.
It is a remarkable occasion for the supporters of Leeds United since Nketiah was the one that provided the team with the late winner at the end of the match securing a 1-0 victory against Brentford at Elland Road.
Since then, Davies has been okay with his officiating. He has been in charge of 14 matches and shown 56 yellow cards but never in his career pulled out a red card.
He is always calm which could be a good thing in making things fair tomorrow.
Supporting Officials for Sunday’s Match
Alongside Davies, the EFL has named Graham Kane and Lee Venamore as the assistant referees. Anthony Backhouse will take on the role of the fourth official.
Big Stakes for Both Teams
The game at Pride Park is an important one for both Derby and Leeds. Leeds will be looking to strengthen their position at the top of the Championship table, while Derby will aim to climb higher in the standings.
The match is expected to be intense, and with Davies’ steady refereeing style, fans can hope for a fair contest.
Leeds fans will be eager to see their team shine under Davies once again and extend their excellent record with him in charge.
Will this game bring another memorable victory for the Whites? Only time will tell!
