Today Daniel Farke has been announced as the new Leeds United Manager and what really can we expect of his expertise?
Daniel Farke was recently the Manager of Norwich City Football Club in the English Premier League. Although, who really is Daniel Farke and how has he impacted English Football?
Farke was born on October 30, 1976, in Dortmund, Germany. He began his playing career as a youth player at BV Brambauer, before moving to Borussia Dortmund’s academy as a teenager. However, he was unable to break into the first team and eventually moved to SV Lippstadt 08, where he played as a striker. After retiring from playing, Farke began his coaching career at Rot Weiss Ahlen, where he worked as an assistant coach. He then moved to Borussia Dortmund II, where he served as the head coach from 2015 to 2017. During his time at Dortmund II, Farke developed a reputation for playing an attacking brand of football and for developing young players.
In 2017, Farke was appointed as the head coach of Norwich City. In his first season in charge, he led the club to 14th place in the Championship table. However, in his second season, he guided the club to promotion to the Premier League, finishing as champions of the Championship. It is also noted that in the that particular year his Norwich side finished two positions higher than Bielsa’s Leeds side.
Farke fan of Tuchel and Guardiola as well as claiming to be “Inspired” by them Both!
Farke told the Guardian in an interview back in 2017:-
The boss detailed his footballing philosophy and the style of play he had begun to usher in Norfolk. He said: “I always want my players to be the protagonists on the pitch. I like us to be in possession.
“There are some other philosophies that are good, such as working against the ball and creating counteractions. Jürgen Klopp, for example, did that in his first years at Dortmund and RB Leipzig do it now.
“In that way you work a lot on pressing and when you win the ball it goes immediately in the other direction. That can be successful and really attractive. But I like more to be in possession, more like Guardiola or Tuchel or like Bayern Munich.”
Farke went on to speak about the ‘really compact’ and ‘solid’ defending in the Championship and the need to control the game, as well as being prepared for the counter-attack.
He added: “It’s important to have a plan B, C, D and E. We always have clear principles but you have to have different plans of how to bring these principles onto the pitch.
“That’s one reason why our base formation is fluid: sometimes we play 4-1-4-1, sometimes 3-5-2, sometimes 4-2-3-1. I want the players to be really flexible. That means a lot of work for players. It’s up to me to keep it simple.”
Farke is known for his tactical acumen and his ability to develop young players. He has been praised for his work in bringing through young players such as Todd Cantwell, Jamal Lewis, and Max Aarons. Farke is also known for his attention to detail and his meticulous preparation for matches.
Off the pitch, Farke is known for his calm and measured demeanour. He was highly respected by his players and had been praised for his ability to create a positive team culture at Norwich City during his tenure.
Overall, Daniel Farke is a highly regarded coach who has developed a reputation for playing an attacking brand of football and for developing young players. He enjoyed great success at Norwich City, leading the club to promotion to the Premier League and earning plaudits for his tactical acumen and attention to detail. This was done on a strict budget which makes all of his achievements as one of the best the Championship has ever seen, in all the years of existence.
