Image The next game for Leeds United is against Cardiff City and Cardiff manager, Erol Bulut, could be facing the sack after a difficult start to 2024/25.
Cardiff were led to a decent 12th place finish last season by Bulut, but the past few weeks have seen his future hanging in the balance.
Cardiff’s Struggles This Season
Cardiff are rooted to the bottom of the Championship having lost four of their first five games.
That has led to just one goal ahead and 11 conceded, and this isn’t a good sign at all for the club.
Defeats to Sunderland, Burnley, Middlesbrough and Derby County have seen Bulut’s position in jeopardy.
A 5-0 thrashing to Burnley and 1-0 defeat against Derby, a newly-promoted team, seem to have intensified the pressure.
Leeds United’s Form and Challenges
Leeds United, meanwhile, have enjoyed a better start to their season, but they’re coming off their first defeat.
Burnley took all three points with a 1-0 win at Elland Road. Leeds have now slipped to ninth in the standings, having won two, drawn two and lost one of their five matches.
The upcoming match between Leeds and Cardiff could be a season-defining game for either team.
On the other hand, Cardiff will be keen to register a win to get off the foot of the table and reduce some pressure on Bulut, however Leeds will want to bounce back from their recent defeat to stay competitive.
What’s at Stake
This could be a make-or-break match for Erol Bulut. If the hosts keep up this dreadful form, Cardiff’s board may also be encouraged to make a change in the managerial hotseat.
Leeds will have to be wary of a Cardiff side eager to prove themselves and fight for points.
Both teams need the win, but for Cardiff, the stakes may be even higher.
