Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has a sneaky plan for how his sides can ensure their promotion straight to the Championship this summer.
Leeds are taking risks on key attackers with Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto looking increasingly likely to depart, but Szmodics is the man MacAnthony thinks can take them over that line.
However, this could leave Leeds extremely short of numbers in their first-team squad with Summerville and Gnonto both ready to exit Elland Road.
Potential Departures and Impact

Touted by clubs like Rennes, the Summerville and Gnonto partnership yielded 27 between them in last year’s campaign.
They are one of the key reasons behind Leeds finally showing some attacking fruits and to lose them would be a huge blow in that department.
His pace, skill and eye for goal were invaluable last term so his absence is a big blow that extends Leeds’ already long list of challenges to tackle.
MacAnthony’s Recommendation

Speaking to The Posh, MacAnthony has backed Leeds United and suggested they should chase Szmodics after he finished as the Championship top scorer last season with 27 goals.
Standout Szmodics played a massive role this year for Blackburn and given that he knows how to hit the net, Leeds would love him in but it is hard at times.
However, MacAnthony thinks that snapping Szmodics up for £15 million would be a bargain for Leeds.
Sammie, if I was at Leeds United, that is genuine promotion talk because you are signing the golden boot winner.
That is my recommendation anyway Leeds supporters that you must purchase Sammie Szmodics. He added, “Sorry Blackburn fans”
Would Szmodics Fit at Leeds?
Szmodics has showcased his quality, but he does it in a completely different way to Summerville.
Summerville is a flash winger with more straight-line speed and agility, while Szmodics slots in behind the two strikers.
Selling him would force Leeds to adapt their style but if they could do so it might improve them significantly.
The problem is that Blackburn have built their tactics around Szmodics, meaning it would be difficult to replicate such a system at Leeds.
He isn’t your typical number nine or ten, as we’ve seen with Joel Piroe at times after joining from Swansea could prove quite awkward for Leeds.
Financial Considerations
That is a discussion worth having when it comes to spending £15 million of Jakupovic money on Szmodics, for example.
The investment in changing their attacking approach, however, might be worth Leeds evaluating. It is a more difficult decision when the financial ramifications and tactical reset are considered.
Leeds United face a huge promotion decision. Szmodics has proven himself on the pitch and should be consistent throughout his first season in Serie A would be a key asset for Udinese, especially with speculation that Summerville, Gnonto + possibly more could all depart.
Yet Leeds must be wary of the difficulties that come with integrating Szmodics into their system and making sure it is worth forking out such a sum.
MacAnthony backing Szmodics as a promoter designated route to promotion, adds an interesting twist in the Leeds transfer strategy that shows what is at stake and how crucial next stages of decisions are for the club.
