Leeds United have injury concerns as they approach their trip to Cardiff City, with center-backs Max Wober and Joe Rodon both doubts due to injuries.
This situation has led manager Daniel Farke to raid the Leeds academy for reinforcements.
Among those called up is 20-year-old defender Jeremiah Mullen.
Mullen Joins First-Team Training
Farke said Mullen had caught his eye with the way he trained, having previously been involved with senior training sessions.
He’s also played in Leeds’ pre-season matches and is a regular for Scotland’s U21s, where he impressed in their recent 5-0 victory over Malta.
Mullen has been on the senior bench three times but is yet to feature.
Farke’s Trust in the Academy
Former interim Leeds coach Michael Skubala praised Mullen as “brilliant” in a previous U21 match.
The youngsters were also competitive academy signings leading Skubala to speak equally highly of Mullen and explaining why Farke likely believes in the club’s young talents.
And with Rodon and Wober expected to miss the trip, Mullen looks set for a place in the squad for their match against Cardiff.
His promotion from the youth ranks is another example of how a rich talent-pool at Leeds is helping his first team.
The clash could be Mullen’s opportunity to prove his worth on the big stage.
