Leeds United wanted to bring in striker Cameron Archer on loan this January, but Southampton have turned down their approach.
Daniel Farke’s side were keen to add Archer to their squad, but the Saints were not ready to let him go.
Leeds Show Interest in Archer Again
Leeds have been keeping an eye on Archer for a while. Back in the summer of 2023, they were linked with him, but Sheffield United managed to sign him from Aston Villa for £18 million.
That left Leeds looking for other options, and they ended up signing Joel Piroe instead.
Even though Piroe has scored 10 league goals so far, Leeds still feel like they need more firepower up front.
Mateo Joseph is another option for them in attack, but he has not been able to fully deliver what the team needs.
This is why Leeds were hoping to bring in Archer on loan to help boost their strike force.
Southampton Refuse to Let Archer Go
TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook has confirmed that Southampton, who are struggling at the bottom of the Premier League, have rejected Leeds’ bid for Archer.
Football journalist Ben Jacobs has also reported on the Whites’ interest in the player, but it looks like Southampton are not willing to let him leave during the January window.
Leeds boss Daniel Farke has previously mentioned that the club is not planning a busy transfer window this January.
However, he has also said that he would like to strengthen three key positions, a No.9, a No.10, and a central defender.
Archer was one of the players Leeds identified as a possible signing, but it is now uncertain whether they will return with another bid or look for other options.
So far, Leeds have not made any signings this month. With time running out in the January transfer window, they need to decide quickly if they will try again for Archer or move on to another target.
Fans will be hoping that the club can bring in the right players to help their promotion push in the second half of the season.
If Leeds can find the right attacking option before the window closes, it could make a big difference to their campaign.
For now, it seems like Cameron Archer will be staying at Southampton, but in football, things can change quickly.
Leeds United may still have a chance to land a new striker before the window shuts.
