Leeds United have completed the signing of Ao Tanaka from Fortuna Dusseldorf in time to face Hull City at Elland Road on 31 August.
The Japanese international midfielder has signed a four-year deal at Elland Road, and will wear the number 22 shirt, becoming our seventh summer signing.
Tim Thornton, reporting live from outside Elland Road, confirmed the transfer on 30 August, noting that Tanaka’s addition is crucial for the squad as they prepare to face Hull City.
Leeds fans will look forward to seeing how he slots into Daniel Farke’s system with expectation high from the talented midfielder.
Schmidt to Follow?
The transfer news doesn’t stop there. Meanwhile, FC St Gallen winger Isaac Schmidt is due to arrive for his medical at Leeds later.
The arrival of Schmidt would be Leeds’ eighth signing and further improve the squad before the closure of the transfer window.
Leeds are trying to get them done as quickly as they possibly can and then look at other options,” Thornton stressed.
Leeds are keen to strengthen their side after the acquisition of Tanaka with new signing Schmidt also set to follow and commit his future to Leeds in time for what is sure going to be a competitive season.
Farke’s Strategy
Leeds United’s manager, Daniel Farke has been clear on the transfer policy.
Tanaka and Schmidt are two of those names on the list but Largie Ramazani, Manor Solomon have been targeted as well with plays for Roland Sallai from Freiburg upto a certain extent.
But the transfer of Sallai looks to be a long shot.
It shows that the team is moving in a better direction after an inconsistent beginning.
The win over Sheffield Wednesday last time out is certainly a sign of hope for Leeds, and with the transfer window closing Farke will be looking to gear things up further with these additions.
Fans from the club are awaiting to observe how will these signings prove, particularly Tanaka who is expected to feature against Hull City.
It is set to be an exciting one in waiting at Elland Road, as fresh faces look poised to embark on the same journey.
In other news, Leeds are reportedly in pursuit of another attacking talent for over £7 million, indicating their commitment to strengthening the squad further.
