Leeds United have had arguably the most roller-coaster start of all the teams in the Championship.
Having only won two of their first five outings, Daniel Farke’s men are already under pressure and a hard-fought 1-0 loss at Burnley deepened that dissatisfaction.
While there were a few good performances, most notably from young forward Matteo Joseph, the lack of a real clinical striker is starting to become more of an issue.
Matteo Joseph’s Struggles
Joseph, only 20 years old, has been impressive and shown exciting flashes but finishing them off for points has proven difficult.
One of them was the miss against Burnley, a vital turning point and while he has already put together three goals in five games, his lack of consistency in front of goal is becoming a concern.
While his enthusiasm is clear, Joseph’s inexperience is starting to impact the team’s overall performance.
Patrick Bamford was ruled out injured, Joseph has been shouldering the burden of leading Leeds’ attack.
But a lot of people think that the club will need some more experience to go with the young forward if the club is to challenge for promotion this season.
Leeds Eye Ross Stewart
One player that Leeds could turn to in order to alleviate their burden is Southampton’s Ross Stewart, who may well be available for a move during the January transfer window.
The 28-year-old forward, who has previously proven his worth at the Championship level, could provide much-needed experience and composure in front of goal.
The record of Stewart speaks for itself. He scored 10 goals in 16 appearances at this level before being moved down the pecking order by Cameron Archer, who could be available for a reasonable £10 million fee.
His experience might help Joseph breathe a little, allowing the youngster to develop without the intense scrutiny currently on him.
The Perfect Fit for Leeds?
He’s a consistent goal scorer who could take the pressure and ease the burden on their young forwards.
Stewart would be able to play the starting striker role itself because of Bamford’s injury problems, while also giving Joseph more time adapt, without all the pressure being on his shoulders for goals.
Leeds United should reignite their interest in Stewart in January, giving his arrival a big boost towards their quest for promotion.
Overall, Ross Stewart would offer the ideal blend of youth and experience in Leeds United’s forward line.
His Championship pedigree makes him a solid option to help steer Leeds back to the Premier League.
