Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal have cooled their interest in former Leeds United star Raphinha after a huge £85 million offer was rejected.
Raphinha would’ve joined Neymar at the Saudi club if he took their offer, which saw him get handed a tasty £400,000 per week.
Despite the financial appeal, Raphinha has decided to stick it out at Barcelona where he is determined to dig in his heels.
The 26-year-old has been in great form at the start of this campaign, scoring three goals and providing two assists from four appearances.
Due to Barcelona’s financial difficulties a number of them were up for sale but 22-year-old former Leeds United man Raphinha, who was purchased in a £55 million deal last summer, decided against leaving and instead extended his time at Camp Nou.
Why Raphinha Stayed
Raphinha’s decision reflects his passion for Barcelona, a dream club for most footballers.
The talented winger, renowned for his speed and skill, has enjoyed great success in Spain having previously starred in the Premier League at Leeds.
During his time Raphinha enjoyed a successful two years at Elland Road, contributing 17 goals and 12 assists from 65 Premier League appearances.
Turning down an offer from Al-Hilal, Raphinha bucked the trend of players heading to the Saudi Pro League for big-money deals.
He is determined to continue at Barcelona, where he aims to win major titles and prove his value to the squad amidst the club’s challenging financial climate.
What’s Next for Raphinha?
Though a host of big names have headed to Saudi, in Raphinha’s case it was a desire to test himself on the biggest stage in Europe that prompted him to stay.
Barcelona have their own financial woes and this could see further suitors emerge for the Brazilian winger, but his focus is very much on playing ‘for Barcelona to meet its goals this season’.
Barcelona fans were thrilled to see Raphinha embracing the Barcelona colors and have thrown praise upon his commitment.
