Leeds United are reportedly targeting a replacement for Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto. But for the most part they are looking at Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, a talented young winger from Crystal Palace.
It has been a busy transfer window for Leeds, who have signed Joe Rodon and Joe Rothwell while there as well as Alex Cairns. Yet they have flogged Virgil van Dijk, Martin Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana to balance the books after taking a £190 million hit.
Leeds’ Transfer Activity
Leeds locked in Joe Rodon on a permanent deal, exchanged for Archie Gray going to Tottenham Bournemouth loaned out Joe Rothwell and Alex Cairns returned in a third-choice goalkeeper role.
Leeds do still see major outgoings, with Gray joining Luis Sinisterra and Glen Kamara in leaving for big fees. Diego Llorente, Charlie Cresswell and some others have left too.
Interest in Jesurun Rak-Sakyi
A 21-year-old striker at Crystal Palace, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is of interest to Leeds. Rak-Sakyi impressed during his loan at Charlton Athletic, scoring 15 goals and making eight assists.
Yet Crystal Palace have knocked back an offer from Southampton to sign him with a loan-to-buy deal, suggesting that they are not willing to sell. Given they are in a state of financial turmoil, this could well prove attractive to Leeds.
Competition for Rak-Sakyi
Rak-Sakyi has also attracted interest from a number of Championship clubs, with Blackburn Rovers, Queens Park Rangers and Luton Town all keen and with Summerville and Gnonto maybe off, Rak-Sakyi could be an excellent signing for Leeds as they want more attacking cover.
Something that will be intriguing to watch as the transfer market trundles along, is whether or not Leeds can beat out said competition for his services.
Leeds’ Plans
Leeds are determined to strengthen the squad with a number of key departures and exits expected. Bringing in Rak-Sakyi might be the key one way or another.
If not for breaking through immediately into a starting XI, then at least as enough added attacking depth to get them over that extra hurdle required when it comes to gaining promotion.
Leeds will now step up their pursuit of the young winger and it will be interesting to see if they are able to secure his services as competition mounts between clubs.
