Leeds United are about to let their £3 million-rated gem Charlie Cresswell leave. Toulouse (France) and Hannover (Germany) are keen on the youngster.
That decision followed a breakdown in the relationship between Cresswell and Leeds boss Daniel Farke earlier in the season.
Financial Woes and Player Sales
The club is having to raise money to settle debts left over from former owner Andrea Radrizzani. A number of the first one in are set to go, including some of Victor Orta’s loan-to-buy type recruits.
According to former Leeds player Jon Newsome, Summerville and Gnonto to be sold, and more
Cresswell, who is a product of the Thorp Arch academy, endured a difficult campaign and fell out with Farke over his lack of match minutes.
Arriving on a free last summer, he penned a new deal with the club, but only managed seven first team appearances, clocking just over 300 minutes in total. This soured relationship has made his exit all but inevitable.
Interest from French and German Clubs
The Metro reports that Cresswell was targeted by AC Milan in January, but it is Toulouse and Hannover who appear to be leading the charge for his signature.
The sale of Cresswell, who came through the Leeds academy, will be more or less pure profit for the club, helping to bring them into line with Financial Fair Play.
Leeds meanwhile are in the middle of a defensive crisis with Joe Rodon heading back to Tottenham Hotspur and Liam Cooper currently in talks over a new deal.
But they also stand to be light on numbers defensively if they make the England left-back’s move to east London permanent.
Future Prospects and Transfers
Leeds have also opened the negotiations with Reggiana for the signing of playmaker Natan Girma, who is expected to cost around £3.5 million.
He would be a useful option in the position just behind the forwards, where Girma chipped in with nine goals last term. Yet suspicions linger as to if he really suitably given his recent knee surgery.
The club will divide the money made from the player sales as well on the players meant to be bought to assemble a strong side to compete for a place in the Premier League next season.
Fans of Leeds will be hoping that this goes some way to stabilizing the club and establishing them for the foreseeable future.
Leeds United face a huge summer in which they must fiend off financial peril and prepare to build a stronger team for next season.
